Halo: Outpost Discovery is a traveling fan experience for the whole family that brings the Halo universe to life. This weekend-long event includes laser tag, VR technologies, themed panels, and so much more.

I was able to play a part of the development and reveal for the very first Outpost Discovery tour. My role included creating a production timeline for life-size line art creations of the Halo Universe villains, assisting in the mobile app design and copy writing, and ensuring that graphic animations for the announce trailer were delivered by their milestone dates.

ANNOUNCE TRAILER

For this trailer, I was responsible for overseeing the production timeline for animations and title cards. The designers on my team had to animate the different pieces of concept art that are seen at the beginning of the trailer and also had to create the text and end cards.

HALO: OUTPOST DISCOVERY APP

This is an interactive app that lets users discover hidden information and take part in challenges that result in points and rewards during the event. It is currently available to download on the Google Play store and iOS app store.

The designers on our team were responsible for coming up with the design and style guide. After finishing designs, we would hand them over to our partners at Herschend for development. During the eight-week process, I would assist my team in double checking their work and copy writing for the various screens.

LIFE SIZE LINE ART

One of the many cool features of Halo: Outpost Discovery is a printed, life size scaled wall of the villainous creatures that exist within the Halo Universe. One of the designers on my team created the line art by combing through different character renders we had archived in the system and tracing them using Adobe Illustrator. I oversaw the production of this and would be in constant communication with both 343 and Herschend stakeholders to ensure we handed these designs over in time for print. Below is the original lineup that was created followed by photos of the final result.

SOCIAL MEDIA

Our team was responsible for taking already-made key art and creating the appropriate sizes for the various social media platforms 343 used while promoting the event. We made sure to strategically place the logo for legibility and even created art to place around it for a sales promotion.
